The Kruger National Park offer authentic African Wildlife experiences including the Big 5. Plants life in the park consists of four main areas Thorn Trees and  Red Bush-Willow Veld, Knob-Thorn and Marula Veld, Red Bush-Willow and Mopane Veld and Shrub Mopane Veld. Out of the 517 species of birds found at Kruger, 253 are residents, 117 non-breeding migrants, and 147 nomads. All the Big 5 animals are found at Kruger National Park, which has more species of large mammals than any other African game reserve (at 147 species),   packs of the endangered African Wild Dog, of which there are thought to be only about 400 in the whole of South Africa. 114 species of reptile, including black mamba and 3000 crocodiles. Thirty-three species of amphibians are found in the Park a well as 50 fish species. Accommodation in Kruger is in comfortable, air conditioned, rounds huts. You will be spoiled with game drives, activities within Skukuza, two-course breakfasts and three-course dinners, while wine will be included.

The Private Game Lodges offer visitors close contact sightings with Elephant, Lion, Rhino, Buffalo, Cheetah, Giraffe, Zebra and a vast variety of antelope and other species. Throughout the day around the Lodge you will see African Wildlife. You will head out with your ranger and tracker for the afternoon game drive through the reserve. You will also stop for a sun-downer drink and will have a chance to stretch your legs as you watch the sun set over the distant peaks of the Drakensberg mountains. As darkness falls, a skilled tracker will scan the landscape with a spotlight which illuminates animals’ eyes. A variety of completely different species can be seen on the night drive. This will be followed by a tentalizing dinner.

A visit to the Blyde River Canyon, Three Rondavels and God’s Window as part of the Panorama Route could be included as an optional extra when traveling from the Kruger to the Lodge. The Blyde River, reached from Graskop while north a small road leads to God’s Window, from where you will enjoy a wonderful view on the Lowveld. From many well-positioned vantage points one has a view of the 33 km long gorge.

 Day 1: Johannesburg to Kruger Park  

We collect guests early morning in Johannesburg for the 6 hour travel to the Kruger National Park. On route you will be surprised by the scenes. The Highveld section of your journey starts in eMalahleni, which means ‘Place of Coal’ – a name symbolic to the town’s historical and current status as the coal mining capital of the province. You will pass the farming and industrial town of Middelburg, heading East, the route takes travelers through the mystical, mist-shrouded trout, cattle and sheep farming areas of Belfast and Machadodorp. On route we will we stop for lunch (own expense).

After settling into your Dome Tent and exploring Skukuza, you will join us for a SANParks Sunset Drive. The excitement all starts when you climb onto the 4 x 4 vehicle for your first game drive and the ranger explains the rules of an open safari vehicle. You will be accompanied by other quests because this is not a private game drive.

(Children under 6 years of age are not permitted on open vehicle drives)

A three-course dinner will await you at your return. We add some wine, camp fire stories and at your absolute pleasure will be all the night sounds only found on an African Safari.

Day 2: Full Day in the Kruger National Park

In the early morning we will start the day with tea, coffee, muffins and fruit before we leave for the morning game drive which leave at around 04.30 in summer and 05.30 in winter. Experienced guides will inform you throughout the drive about all the animals. The drive will last for 3 to 4 hours and when you return to the park you will be served with brunch.

With a filled stomach you can opt for a siesta, swim, visit to the Skukuza Museum, African Curio Shop, take a walk around the camp, or simply relax on the viewing platform of the restaurant, which overlooks the Sabie River. Once back in Skukuza, brunch will be served after which you will have time to relax around in Skukuza. Skukuza is a shortened word for Sikhukhuza in Tsonga language, meaning new broom. Skukuza was given by the local Tsonga people as a nickname for James Stevenson-Hamilton who was seen as ‘a new broom’, cleaning up poaching in the Kruger National Park. Activities and facilities in Skukuza are diverse and sophisticated like a little city but the animals and plants found both within the camp and in the surrounding areas are exceptional. Bring your binoculars.

The afternoon offers you a game drive with highly experienced guides, giving quests the history and background of the Kruger National Park and detailed information of the animals, trees and plants encountered on the drive. All drives are in specially adapted 4 x 4 open game viewing vehicles to allow the best spotting of animals.

The evening is again ended with a three-course meal, wine, camp fire, interesting other quests, African Wildlife stories and the sounds of the night animals.

Day 3 and 4: From the Kruger National Park to a Private Game Lodge

In the early morning we will start the day with tea, coffee, muffins and fruit before we leave for the morning game drive which leaves at around 04.30 in summer and 05.30 in winter. Experienced guides will inform you throughout the drive about all the animals. The drive will last for 3 to 4 hours and when you return to the park you will be served with breakfast.

You will be mesmerized not only by the beauty of the landscape but also when entering the Private Luxury Lodge. After the long drive you will be warmly welcomed by the lodge staff and be able to settle and familiarize yourself with your room and surroundings.

The excitement starts when you climb onto the 4 x vehicle for your first game drive and the ranger explains the rules of game viewing from an open safari vehicle. The game drive will take around 3-4 hours. You will be decadently spoiled with the finest private African Wildlife Safari offerings, specifically the Big 5.

Dining will be in true African Safari luxury style. Cuisine at a Private Lodge is more than just a meal – it is an African Cultural experience of perfect indulgence. These lodges also cater for all dietary requirements on request.

Day 5: Last Day in the Private Game Reserve before returning to Johannesburg

After an early wake up bush game drive and breakfast you will start your journey back to Johannesburg. The majority of lodges also offer bush walks after breakfast and guests are welcome to join.

Lunch will be enjoyed on route at your own expense.

We strongly advice that you sleep over in Johannesburg on this evening to avoid the disappointment of missing a too early booked flight.

It is important to note that this is not a private safari and more than likely there will be other guests joining you on the game drive vehicles, air-conditioned mini bus transfer vehicles as well as in the dining facility.

The child policies vary from lodge to lodge. Some lodges do not accept children under 12 at all, while others gladly accept children but do not allow younger children on the open game drive vehicles for safety reasons. These lodges offer babysitting services at a nominal extra charge. Please be sure to enquire about this before making your reservation.

Guests flying out of OR Tambo Airport on the last day are reminded to not book any flights earlier than 19h00 (domestic) or 20h00 (international) in order to give us enough time to get you to the airport. We recommend that you rather stay over in Johannesburg if possible. Since we cannot guarantee our arrival time in Johannesburg on the last day we will not be held responsible for reimbursements of flight tickets, should we arrive later than expected. Guests flying out of Nelspruit on the last day may, depending on their flight details, not have enough time to see the Panorama Route. Private transfers for guests with early flights can be arranged in advance at an extra charge.
